Happy Birthday Leanna!

Daddy Daughter SCIENCE
Warning: This is a picture-heavy post!

Leanna turned eleven last week and her party was today. She and her mom live with a few other families in several houses on a huge patch of land; they have chickens and a playground area and all sorts of stuff. Makes for a fun party. Laston did his Bill Nye act with dry ice and bubble solution and the kids had a lot of fun. Aside from a couple of minor kid meltdowns - we didn't know the one kid is phobic about popping balloons, and we'll have to do Abby's baking-soda-and-vinegar rocket another day - everything went very smoothly. Leanna had the Sunburn from Heck under that loose T-shirt, poor baby, but it didn't seem to detract from her party much.

Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

As is usually the case, Abby and Greg were loath to part. We tried to remind them that it was Leanna's day but when it comes to separating, all bets are off for these two.

Lookit those ponytails go!

And then I took the younger two to the ferry to meet my mom. They're staying with Grandma for five days. Yikes. And yippee! I plan to spend the next 24 hours eating foods they can't (pistachios) or won't (peppery fish) or - if we are so foolish as to bring them in the house - they eat so much of that the adults get none (cherries for both of them, dill pickles for Lizzy). And I'm having a rum and Coke (and lime) right now. Because I am off duty for a few days!
